Heliophysics Modeling & Simulation Project (HMS)
Nagi Nicolas Mansour
Chief Division Scientist, NASA Ames Research Center
Nagi N. Mansour serves as lead for the Heliophysics Modeling and Simulation (HMS) project, which supports NASA’s Living With a Star (LWS) program.
Bio
Nagi is the founding lead of the Heliophysics Modeling and Simulation (HMS) project. He pioneered the use of direct numerical simulation for turbulence model development, as well as the use of boundary integral methods for studying drop formation in surface-tension driven flows. He also initiated the development of high-fidelity models for modeling material response to high-enthalpy flows. During his NASA career, Nagi has served as chief of the Reacting Flow Environments Branch at NASA Ames, and as deputy director of the Stanford Center for Turbulence Research, operated jointly with NASA. He earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and is a fellow of the American Physical Society.
Research Interests
Nagi's current research interests include realistic modeling of plasma with coupled radiative transfer and magnetohydrodynamics effects on exascale computing systems; large eddy simulations of the solar convection zone, modeling sound propagation in plasma; and the development of emerging magnetic flux models.
His recent projects include “Integrated Global-Sun Model of Magnetic Flux Emergence and Transport,” supported by the NASA/NSF partnership for collaborative space weather modeling.
