NAS Networking Flow Tool Whitepaper Now Available

The NAS Networks group has released a technical paper on their in-house-developed flow analysis tool. Network engineers have devised a method for collecting network traffic from multiple sources, which allows them to coalesce the data in a way that fills in all the information required to identify key data points used in network performance analysis, such as:

  • Who is the user transferring data to?
  • How is the transfer application being used?
  • Is the user experiencing network congestion?
  • Is the user's remote system optimally tuned?
  • Is the bottleneck on the network, application, or system?

The paper reviews shortcomings in common flow collection sources and describes how to create a functional and centralized management system that allows engineers to easily identify, track, and troubleshoot network flows displaying sub-optimal performance.

This tool has been in use at NAS for over a year and has allowed engineers to proactively and automatically identify performance bottlenecks, resulting in increased end-to-end data transfer rates for many users. Download the Flow Analysis Tool Whitepaper (PDF-703KB).
