Data Science Services
HECC offers a range of services for researchers moving into advanced data science, using the latest technologies in statistics-based data analytics, machine learning, and deep learning.
Our experts work closely with you to make the most effective use of HECC data science and machine learning resources, and to provide guidance on using these technologies to solve problems that would be too time- or resource-intensive to solve using traditional approaches of physics-based or statistical modeling.
Basic Services
The following data science services are available at no extra charge to you.
- Install software libraries used for statistics-based analytics and machine learning
- Set up data science environments, including machine learning, to support user research, including providing container-based solutions to assist you in building your own machine learning software stacks for use on HECC resources
- Build machine learning models for your team to solve your research problems, and train you on the approaches used to build the software
- Propose machine learning approaches for your project, based on your requirementsÂ
All completed machine learning projects are documented by our team; these documents can be used for reference by future projects.

Pilot Projects
- Classifying Carbon Nanotube Sensor Data
Working with the Chemical Gas Sensor team at NASA Ames, HECC data science experts built a classification system for carbon nanotube sensors for aerospace applications, such as cabin air quality monitoring. The Ames team got significant initial results— accuracy was better than 94%—allowing them to move forward with the pilot project. The HECC data science team also created neural networks to predict the chemical composition of various classes of solar cells, using IV curve data from different types of solar cells provided by the Photovoltaics and Electrochemical Systems Branch at NASA's Glenn Research Center.
